Interface suggestions

A couple things I'd like to see...

In the Research screen - Some encyclopedia functions would be nice. When I select a tech, it shows the benefits of that tech, but I really don't know what a lot of those are. If we could right-click them for more info, or if they linked to an info page for that tech, I could make more informed decisions.

In the Diplomacy screen - Again, I need more knowledge and guidance here. Am I offering a horrible trade? Am I giving away the farm in the next one? Perhaps some sort of gauge that shows the potential value of the techs/ships/credits/etc would be appropriate. Not really sure how this would be implimented though, since it's all relative. I don't really feel that there's enough options overall in this screen. Maybe I'm just too early in the game to have the options available, but it seems that for a game so focused on diplomacy, there's not many diplomatic options. Am I missing something here?

Fleshpile,
about the research screen - I wholly second that idea - more clickability is cool and usefull.

About the diplomacy screen I had the same misgivings when I started out. As for trade, you can tell by the color of the text in the middle window, how acceptable the deal is to the other empire - Green is a sure deal.

Pure diplomacy is something I think will be worked on a bit more before release, and after release by the way. Right now, you are pretty much stuck with offering peace treaty, trading, exchanging stuff and alliances.

Ahh I didn't know about the color of the text, that's helpful. Thanks :).

What draws me to this game (mainly) is the non-combat aspects. Moo was all about war, and peace was just what happened between war. This seems like the kind of game where the diplomacy is absolutely key. I would like to see this more fleshed out.

Fleshpile and Flemming,

It has been suggested in the distant past that the research screen elements somehow link up with JavaScout's tech tree, which I think is just about what you are asking for. Is it possible this is one of the things Brad has kept out of the Beta and is putting into release 1.0? We may never know until Feb 25. So I suggest hanging on to this idea until you see 1.0 and, if it is not there, suggest it again.

Hmm connecting to Javascouts Tech-tree - do you mean an internet connection to his website?
All I think people want is the option to rightclick a research area and get detailed info on the relevant tech :)

Razqon, just look at java's tree. you can both play the game and keep the tree open. toggle to tree when deciding what tech to research next. Java's tree is :)

At one time it was possible to download Java's tech tree. I have not tried it lately. But I have been hoping that they will make it part of the shipment.
