SD Central will not restore archives, please help

i'm on dialup btw so this is why my problem is so aggrevating.

i bought object desktop and a couple other things, i selected download and archive...literally took all day to download, i put my archive on a safe partition.

i reinstalled xp, installed sd central and tried to restore archive, apparantly they had to be .zip first so i zipped them individually.
i selected restore archive, selected one, clicked restore and the box disappeard and nothing happened.

so under object desktop screen i selected one and hit install, but all it did was start to download the entire thing from the net.

so i tried to right click on one and select restore archive but same thing, nothing happens, box closes and thats it, my only option appearing to be to press install next to application but i dont understand why its trying to redownload the whole app from scratch.

i know the archives are fine cuz after i first downloaded and archived them i installed them to check em out.

download and archive

I think it does just that = downloads and archives without installing -- but I've been wrong before.

tried to restore archive, apparantly they had to be .zip first so i zipped them individually.

ummm...all my archives in C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\BACKUP are zipped by SDC when archived. sounds like you double zipped them.

so under object desktop screen i selected one and hit install, but all it did was start to download the entire thing from the net.

which is what it does, downloads and installs.

I have SDC set to autoarchive when downloading and installing updates. If the update doesn't work for me, I uninstall it and then restore the archive from backup.

I basically do it the way Corky_O laid it out
Link and it works for me.

mine were not zipped when sd archived them, it would also not locate them until i did zip them.

i looked at the tutorial...as it states right here: " Select the archive you want to restore, and click the Restore button as shown in the image below. This will begin the extraction and installation process."

mine will not do that, as i said the box just disapears and nothing happens

new OS install and new sdc install, i dont knwo what else to do with it

i have auto archive on, but there are no newer updates so it does nothing, the only way i found to get it to archive is to select downoad and archive..any other option is greyed out.

Stardock seems to have changed something in the file format when they went to "Activation" with WB5 and IP3.

Did you register the products in Stardock Central via "Tools > Register Products"? I say this due to the options being greyed out (assuming the "File > Archive" function is greyed out).

You might try installing the WB 4.6 and once it is installed, try to create an archive and then see if you end up with a ".zip" file. If so, then I would have to believe that the new file type for archiving WB5 is due to the activation and contacting tech support would be the best bet.

If you still have greyed out "File > Archive" command with WB 4.6 installed and selected in SDC, then I would suspect that SDC is having some sort of issue and a reinstall and update to only an "Official" release might be the best bet (this can be done by declining any offer to update on first SDC load after install, and then go into "Tools\Settings" and select the options that offer "Stardock Central Releases" and not the beta's, after which you would close and restart SDC to see if it offers a "Release" update).

Due to my running a notebook only at the moment with stand-alone programs, I do not have SDC installed to experiment with, sorry.

I have not done a "download and archive".
I have archived those that were downloaded and installed.

Now trying a 'download and archive' with component tray since I did not have it installed.

I am posting this only so you won't have the dreaded five in a row monologue. That'd be just sad. You could have just kept editing the same post . . . but you didn't. You (almost) monologued instead.

You owe me Troll.
