No ones dead--yet

I needed a tune-up
something to cleanse the soul
and hold the demons at bay
a spiritual thing,

so I went to a deliverance meeting
I listened intently wanting to be honest
in my efforts and I shyly went to join the
line to be prayed over when it was done,

waiting to pray for us was a friend,
a retired investment banker from Chicago
with a shiny bald head and a heart of gold,

he asked "what do you need deliverance from?

I told him I wanted to do crime.

deal tons of weed and bricks of cocaine
make shit-loads of money, drink like a fish,
fuck coeds silly and kill a few people,

he put his hands on my head and started
praying, his wife behind him wrapped her
hands around my shoulders and did the
same,

forty-five minutes later they said "Amen
and sat down from exhaustion .

every now and then when we see each other
he'll say "so, how's it workin'?"
I always answer, "nobody's dead yet."
he laughs and slaps me on the back.

After all, he used to be a banker.
