Checkbox for removing obsolete technologies in ship construction screen

(hope hasn't been suggested already)


Similar to hitting the "obsolete" function for ships, I'd like the option to hit "obsolete" for ship technologies on the ship construction screen.
Examples: Laser 1-4 when you have Laser 5. This is especially true for armor, or life support, etc.
I realize there may be times you can optimize to save on cost (if you have free space) but it is too nit-picky, and I'd rather have a streamlined interface.

There should just be a little checkbox, which you can hit to remove it from the construction screen. Maybe there should be another screen to re-add back in, in case you made a mistake.

(I hope this hasn't already been suggested or fixed in the update)

I agree. I too have felt this when looking at the lists. It seems like it should be easy to add.

Why would you obsolete things that you can fit on ships to optimize attack, defense etc.. Laser V is usefull because it is smaller than anything until past the disrupter techs..

For missile yes that would be useful because these early things are too large and useless..

Railguns I guess but I don't know that line as well as everything else..

What we are asking for is a filter that we can use to hide/show each old tech in the lists.

I think some techs eventually just become useless as they are neither smaller cheaper or high power than anything else, those annoy me alot.

I wonder if a 'slider filter' might work. Obsolete every tech over X selected models old. I have laser IV and Mass Driver IV, I set the slidr to obsolete tech over 2 generations old and it removes everything but laser III/IV and Mass driver III/IV from the list.

Later on I might decide I need an older tech afterall so move the slider to re-reveal more options.

In my ideal world, any component that is strictly worse than some other available component would be masked (maybe only if the proposed checkbox is checked). That is, component A would not be displayed if component B (of the same type) is no more expensive, takes no more space, and has at least as much power as component A. This way, Laser would not be displayed if you had Laser Mark II, since Laser Mark II is the same cost and same power as Laser, but is smaller.

This would greatly reduce the number of components displayed, while still showing all the components that could possibly make sense to use.

I agree with Wade ther needs to be some sort of filter for the techs, also I wish there was a way to allow you to put less advanced structures on new colonies to help get them started. At the moment you can't build anything less advanced than your current tech.

I agree with Onikazi - the cost of new planetary technology can be very high. Try playing the "Battle of the Gods" scenario.

It would be useful to have the "Show only latest tech" filter a removable checkbox, so that low-cost technologies could be purchased that won't break the bank due to maintenance fees.
