bugs in lastest beta

1) Clicking on AI ship gives (new sounding) beep and sector view jumps back to your active ship. Double clicking, no matter how fast, now fails to bring up AI ship menu (cant ID AI ship). This bug is very anoying. (:(

Indeed. I also don't like the tendency to center on ships you click on either.

This click bug doesnt happen every turn, only some turns. Its been around for months and probably hard to find.

I don't know how difficult a programming job it would be but I would love an option to disable all auto-focus shifts to ships until hitting the "Find" button.

I want to be able see what I'm looking at now, and not be whisked away to whatever ship the game has on it's list.

You could leave it the way it is now for those who like it like it as is, but add a "No auto-focus moves" checkbox to the optopns screen. If checked this would force to gamer to hit the "Find" button before the main screen would shift away from whatever the gamer is looking at.

Not sure of all the implications of this though ;)

I don't have any better idea what this would take, but I'm in complete agreement with Elrikk. The auto-focus switch is often very annoying, and I'd like to be abel to turn it off and just hit "Find" when I want to move on.

Ok, it happened again. Went to debug file, marked last line, return to program and started clicking (having my scout next to AI ship helped). Every now and then, the AI ship pop-up would appear (twice after my mark) but I could not single click on ship. Hopes this helps:

I also find I can't select an opponent's ship unless I have autoturn off and wait until the end of the turn. Even then, sometimes it does not stay selected long enough for me to be sure it even was selected.

Here is why Ted may have thought he was the only one having the problem: I for one, and I suspect everyone else, did not really think we should be able to select the ship of another civ. Why should we. We can't move it or make it attack, or anything. Of course, it would be nice to be able to gather some information about the ship if I were planning to attack it or thought it might be about to attack me, such as, how damaged is it? What are its strengths (HP, def, etc.)? Essentially, when I found out how I could successfully select an alien ship, I thought I was taking advantage of a bug of a different nature. Now I tend to agree with Ted. We SHOULD be able to probe an alien ship with our sensors. The simplest way of doing this is to let us select the ship.

Elrikk, excellent "disable auto-focus" suggestion.

Jack, a large part of my war strategy depends on being able to scan enemy ships. My 4Z game hasn't involved any warfare, is the ability to select enemy ships gone?

Lastly,
I just started playing again (took a game break for the first couple weeks of University) and was able to confirm a bug I'd never been able to pin down before because it always seemed to happen in gi-normous galaxies with lots of micro-management to confuse my strictly single-tasking brain. This time it was easy to spot and remember because the ship's intended destination was a Class 26 gem.

A colony ship gets built, you load it and launch it, move on to Next completed project, etc. When you go to send your colony ship to its intended destination you find... nothing. No colony ship, no population reduction on the ship's home planet. It's as if the ship (and your actions to load and launch) never existed.

On this occasion I bought the colony ship for cash, so the missing ship might be related to the circumstances under which the ship is produced. I'll keep a weather eye out for it happening again.

End transmission.

You can still select enemy ships, but there are a few quirks similar to what's been mentioned above.

'A colony ship gets built, you load it and launch it, move on to Next completed project, etc. When you go to send your colony ship to its intended destination you find... nothing.'

I've never seen this here, but I don't launch colony ships until after I have a destination either.
