Altarian Prophecy beta Available to Drengin.net users

Altarian Prophecy beta Available to Drengin.net users

You have to have updated and restarted Stardock Central since yesterday to see the beta.  Check Show Pre-Release Applications and select Check for Application Updates if you aren't seeing it.

Altarian Prophecy will show up as a separate module under Games, and installs into its own directory, but you must have Gal Civ installed (preferably 1.13 but 1.12 might work too).  It works much like the mods directory.

Please note that the save games are not cross-compatible between the expansion pack and 1.13 or earlier versions of Gal Civ.  They no longer create folders; everything is saved in one file.  Altarian Prophecy has its own Data\SaveGames folder.

possible bug: missing some graphic animations when the computer is attacking my ships on my planet and when they attack my trade ship. Even when I'm in visual range (e.g planet range or sensor range) all I see is the ship disaapear with the appropiate sound effect.

when I run it apart from themenu on startup and the version number being displayed in menu in the game everything else seems to look and act the same.. am i missing anything ?

Smeagol,

From what I understand, the main stuff for Beta #1 are the editors.

The additions to the main game itself are still minor at this point in time. New pics for Alexians and Caris plus some new galaxy settings are all I found so far.
Considering the editors crash the system systematically, it's very much a beta...

Unable to download. Stardock Central keeps lockin when trying to download.

Any solutions?

Ah, had to install directx9 to get the map editor working. :) Still get the CTD when trying to load a saved game tho. Looking good so far. :D

i created a gigantic map with no problems but when i go to load the map and play it in the game it doesn't fill the mini-map its up in the upper left corner and there is a whole lot of blank space around the edge of the map grid. any way to center it or to get rid of the blank areas?

I wonder what would happen if you tried to submit a game to the metaverse.. but i'm too scared to try as i've just had probs with my scores.. LOL

Well, I was going to submit to the metaverse, just one more enemy planet to go for my alliance or military victory(depending on how my mood towards my ally would be after the invasion), and then ... cultural victory. (bitter victory since not what I had been preparing for a long time ;) ). I decided not to submit since it was not what I had in mind. And what do I discover seconds later: CTD whenever trying to load the save :sniff!: . A lost game (and it is 3h58 AM :sniff!: :sniff!: )

Good night or day everyone.

Well since I updated StarDock and downloaded the X Pack beta, I can't seem to bring up any History on anything I've downloaded. The History link turns purple to show that I've clicked on it, but doesn't open anything, so possible that the links have been cut
Reply #37 Top
Anyone else besides me and Nastavnik having CTD's when trying to load a savegame?

*repeats to self* it's only a beta, it's only a beta.... LOL

Yes, I can't reload any saved game.

CTD midgame for no apparent reason. Can't load either Autosave game - immediate CTD. Installed smartexception and tried again - report is:

Incidentally, if anyone is having problems archiving, it's probably due to the name (can't have a : in a filename). Which should be a simple fix for the SD team.

Hi there,

The are currently 2 problems with GalCiv and trying to install it through SDC. To install the game normally (not archiving it) go into the SDC settings and untick the option to "Prompt to enter an installation directory" under the Installation heading. This option is what is causing SDC to crash. Select OK and go ahead and install the game as normally and everything should now be fine. The second problem is the archiving option, do not use this option at all as the archving name currently uses a character that cannot be used within filenames, thus the operation fails.

Hope this helps,
Brian

dont click minor races buton as this causes CTD so does the Council screen when you change type of gov. cari is this supposed to be full playable beta version or just 'sneak peak'?
End of quote

Umm, it doesn't have all the features in yet if that's what you mean.  But you shouldn't be getting crashes there, so I'll have to look into that when I get back.

One weird thing: Why were all the ai's set to pure good fools by default? Fools OK, but Pure Good?
End of quote

Because if the Aliens are good they're nicer to you so it's easier.

What do the options mean in GoodVsEvil and I-can't-remember-what-it-was-but-it-was-by-default? Both disable alliance victory. Do you plan to provide some hint on what those options mean like a right click help, text description or something?
End of quote

Umm....which options? Can I get a screenshot or something?  I'll pass on the request for docs or right clicks or tooltips or something to the guy who made the editors.

Yes, Joe did use DirectX 9, specifically Direct3D.  Is that a problem?

I'm having someone send me a save game so that I can see why it doesn't work.  It worked for me when I was testing it.

possible bug: missing some graphic animations when the computer is attacking my ships on my planet and when they attack my trade ship. Even when I'm in visual range (e.g planet range or sensor range) all I see is the ship disaapear with the appropiate sound effect.

Did saving and reloading fix it?  If not, that's a new bug.

Send me the map and I'll check it out.

You can submit games as long as they're not scenarios.

gherardo, if reading post #42 doesn't help, e-mail [email protected]

You can save your save games until I determine if they're all just bugged, or if I just need to adjust something in the loading code.

Yeah, directx9 is a problem. :) I can't use the map editor under WineX then with directx9. (IE I'm playing GalCiv/AP on Linux using the WineX emulator. It handles most games pretty well and can handle directx8 but so far, it doesn't do directx9 (AFAIK) well or at all.)

Any chance of doing it with DX8? :)

P.S.
I'm gonna go see if I actually need to install DX9 though for WineX. That may be why it don't want to work.

P.P.S
GalCiv works PERFECTLY under WineX. THANK YOU for NOT making it D3D. This means one less need/reason to use VMWare. :)

Not sure if this belongs here but its feedback about the beta. Haven't really had a chance to play with the Beta and editors all that much, however from the brief look.....

The GCLoader is a bit annoying. It starts cut off below the bottom of my screen and I click on the planet to move it all is fine. However If I move it clicking on say the title text it flickers between two positions as I move it. A little annoying depending on where you click and as how much it flickers can vary. <- sorry if this seems trivial but presentation wise I thought you'd like to know.

The only other play I've had is with the map editor... things so far...

1. Putting two planets next to each other causes an unspecified error message.
Nothing special probably meant to be a message specifing 2 planets cannot be placed closer then
two sectors from each other.

2. Selecting Print Preview then clicking the "no" option causes the toolbars for selecting planets,
race, ships and resources to appear all at once. Selecting a left hand toolbar option resets
everything to normal.

3. No "clear" option for ships, either of a race or all, its a great option to have if you stuff up a
fleet. In fact you can't select a ship to delete it either.

4. Stacking ships onto a tile? Doesn't seem possible yet.

5. Selecting a planet, the menu changes the x scale of map. Sorry no biggy just seems weird... ;)

6. Top menu items such as the planet options don't work if you have something selected.
To be more specific if you select a star, and select randomize planets and nothing happens to
that star, however deselect the star and select the option and randomizing occurs.

7. Loading an old map then selecting new map leaves the old maps name as the new maps title, should
probably be called something like "untitled" instead.

Hope this helps, good work so far I will like the ability to create a little story/campaign.

:CONGRAT: :CONGRAT: Merry Christmas Stardockians and fellow GalacticCivians :CONGRAT: :CONGRAT:

I installed this and played it. It worked fine. Except after I saved it and shut the game down. When I restarted, it just crashes GalCiv. Running this on top of 1.13 and Win XP with fixpacks.

The save games feature does NOT work for Altarian Prophecy. You get kicked out of the game when trying to load a game. You also get kicked oput when checking foreign relations with either minor civilizations aor relations with major ones.
