4z screws my PC

First time ever.

First report of 100% cpu usage was yesterday, different situation, thought it was local, not so sure.

Last night I got a CPU 'churn' on the globe icon on the diplomacy screen - progressive collapse of system resources over 5 seconds to a total lock up due to zero resources available - sound collapse was a give away.

Tonight, no particular situation, on galactic map, early game (Aug 2189), little activity other than a simple turn, few ships (maybe 20 total including AI), low planet occupancy (I had 4) game ground to halt over a 5 second period, mouse sluggish and staggering, sound popping CPU usage 100%..

I could not break out this time and had to reboot, caused a registry fry-up, had to rebuild and repair files etc.....

It happened tonight to me too. On the diplomacy screen, I went to talk to minor race, GalCiv lock-up. Didnt check to see if race was conquered that turn. 90+ cpu usage. used task manager to restart. no files damaged.

I don't think so. First off, CPU usage in any DirectX game is going to be 100% so that doesn't really mean much.

Odds are there is an endless loop. But it hasn't happened to me.

What OS you guys running?

I see alot of end of turn pauses where even the sound goes dead in 4Z that weren't there in 4D, but I haven't had the game actually lock or crash, and overall performance is much better than should be expected, given that my system is rather...pathetic.

Brad

I am running XP Home.

My system does run out of resources. My mouse eventually staggers to a halt and the second time I couldn't summon up enough juice to pop up task manager. The first time when I did get task manager up it says GalCiv is not responding.

By The way, Kuroth, In retrospect I could have named the thread better. What I meant was the 'bug' presents as a consequence of a system resource failure rather than directly, such as a CTD for example. When I say -

I could not break out this time and had to reboot, caused a registry fry-up, had to rebuild and repair files etc.....

That's not GalCiv's fault directly, it's cos I had to do a hard reeboot as my task manager would not pop up for me to end the task and this way of shutting down can often fry files as we all know. It was no major fag to sort out.

GalCiv's code did not directly screw with my registry, the hard reeboot did. No big deal, (but I am not playing it at the moment) ;)
