UP Council - trade federation

So, the creation of a trade federation should make the freighters safe?? what exactly does the trade federation do? can freigters no-longer be attacked??
I havent seen anything happen based on this.

This council issue will keep players (and aliens alike) from attacking freighter vessels (wether they've already extablished a trade route or not). If you try to attack an enemy freighter and this UP Law is being enforced, you'll get a little memo from the council remining you of the resolution and preventing the attack.

aaaahhhhhhh - Nice to know :-)

thanks - perhaps there should be a little gametext saying so somewhere after the UP coulncil?

Hmmm, well, does the same apply for the UP rule against attacking star-bases? I was playing a game just this week where the UP voted to disallow the attacking of star-bases. An opponent of mine had a star-base within view of one of my colony's and it was getting whacked all the time.

Does the trade federation prevent attacks on trade ships, too?

Hrothgar,

"trade ships"? What trade ships? I don't know of any except freighters (which is where this thread started).

The decorative mini-freighters are refered to as Trade Ships in a few spots, I think.

Arturus Magi,

Yes, that is what I was trying to get at. Is that indead what Hrothgar is thinking of when he says trade ships?

Hrothgar, if the answer to my question is yes, then the answer to your question is, or at least used to be, yes. If you find you can attack freighters or "mini-freighters" (as some have refered to them as) while such a UP resolution is in affect, without dropping out of the UP, then you have a bug to report.

Yeah, I meant those little freighters that take over the route once the big freighter completes its first run. Every time the AI fries one of mine, the report says that "Trade Ship X was destroyed," so that's why I called them that.

OK. Then I guess Stardock intends the small mini-freighters to be called "trade ships". I will change my vocabulary now.

The trade treaty in my game said freighters were protected forever, but they are still killed. Is the tratey overridden by the next treaty (i.e only one can be active) or is it a bug?

Are you sure the treaty was successful? I've had that one a couple times and it always made frieghter immune (not sure about pirates and sharks though).

In fact, in a bit of ultimate cheese you can send a bunch of frieghters to surround each enemy planet, and even if they go to war they can't attack the frieghters...

There's nothing funnier than a dozen Drengin Dreadnaughts being blockaded by merchants :-). At least in my game the Drengin weren't able to figure out the benefit of dropping out of the council.

It worked for a while, just not 'forever' as the law stated. It seems that eventually the law is abandoned, perhaps by later laws. For a while, i could go right by enemy ships, then WHAM.
