Video Problems

Sorry, hadn't posted in awhile, have had problems getting a new video card to work. That said, I've got the latest beta and have some problems that I haven't had before:

1) On the new opening screen, the opening of the "doors" to the new beginning game menu is very, very slow and choppy

2) In game cutscenes don't seem to work. At least the first one for colonizing a new planet. I get some weird "jungle" sounds, but the cutscene is blank

Any idea what is going on?

I have aways had choppy video and sound. the new opening doors on the main screen are the worst of the lot as they take about 40 seconsds to 'jerk' open, whilst doing this my sound card gives out allarming squeaks and static pops and the music is broken up.

If I new anything about it I would say that video and sound are competing for resource on my machine making a right mess. Also ingame sound and music seem to compete on my rig

Yeah, the music is broken up also. But I've never had this problem before until this build. I've got GF4 4400 and Creative Soundblaster.

This problem has been mentioned on other threads with the suggestion that someone having this problem uninstall and reinstall GC and the MM. I did this and still have choppy sound for the initial setup screen's opening doors, and choppy sound for the "first time" movies and no movies (black screens instead). The download is BIG (61.25 Meg for GC, 178.16Meg for MM). I have Windows ME on an AMD Athlon(tm) Processor (1Ghz) with 128 MB RAM. My sound device is a SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio and the display card is a NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS (IBM).

If anyone had an uninstall/reinstall actually fix their problem, please post here.

I'm getting the same problem with the video being jerky and now I've lost my cut scenes since down loading 4z. I'm running this game on my laptop (1ghz p3, with 528 ram and gforce 2 go). I'm really hoping the video and sound get worked out b4 the final release as I would hate to see the game undermined by something as trivial as that, but it would. The game is a really great game overall and I've thoroughly enjoyed it (much to the dismay of my wife hehe).

I am not having any problems with the video or sound. I use a Geforce 3 with turtle beach sound. What other info does SD need to fix this problem?

I noticed the loss of cut scenes and also the choppy/slow opening animation with the door opening, but I had previously ascribed the missing videos to another message Brad put up earlier when 4Z came out that some video and audio had been removed to tweak them before the release. Can't comment on audio since I'm hearing-impaired, therefore I generally play with the sound turned off. I haven't had any problems with video/audio otherwise (I had a CTD just now, but that was associated with another combination of events - see my post elsewhere).

Ted,

One thing that has been mentioned that is beginning to look like a factor is what operating system one is using. I have seen posts of failures on "Win/ME" and posts of no failure on Win/XP. Another factor COULD be the level of DirectX in use, as has happened in previous display and sound problems that seemed to affect some people but not others.

Jack,
You may be 100% correct. I use XP. It's as big a jump over 9x/ME as 95 was to 3.x.

Ted,

My eyes slipped the wrong direction. Must get that fixed. Sorry about that, I should have said "Joe".

Ted,

Then again, I guess you are refering your name getting into your own post. Yes, I have had that happen to me as well. I think it is because the new code for this forum is substituting the "author name" for any "?me" you put into a post. (And my eyes continue to trick me. )

And how did the "/me" I typed get changed to "?me"? But then, maybe I didn't release the shift key fast enough.

Any response here, Stardock. Doesn't appear to be an isolated problem.
