By god those escaped Zoo monsters are powerful!

Just went to confront one of said beasties with the pride of my Navy - 3 Overlords, 2 Avatar Battleships, Original Survey ship and a maxed out Terror Star. Thus our Attack rating was almost as good as the Monsters, and our Defence rating was about 10x better.

Four melee rounds later - No Overlords or Terror Star :sniff!: Damned thing walked through the Overlords, bypassed the lesser ships and took out the Terror Star. Time to retreat!

I've learned not to vote for myself to get the space zoo.

I always vote for the others to have the Zoo. Now I definitely know its also best to send your ship in the opposite direction. Although, I just found it very handy to find 1 of the beasties and 'lead' it to space stations that belong to other players, as well as their fleets. Beasties don't care who owns them - although they don't seem to attack the Minor Races stuff :(

hehe, perhaps a new tech, called Zoo-handling should be implemented?

Why did you send a Terror Star? I thought they only destroyed Stars. BTW, are Dreadlords still around?

The Terror Star was in the sector, it only moves very slowly compared to everything else. I attacked the beastie with the Overlords, but the beastie decided that the next target was the Terror Star, not the other ships. :notsure:

never seen this space zoo business - what is it and is it common?
It's one of the newer random events. It's not terribly common, I've only seen it happen once or twice in games I've played.

Sigh...teach me to re-read my post before hitting the submit button.

I _meant_ to say it's one of the new UP issues, like the, prison planet and galactic olympics votes.

I got the monster zoo once. Never had the Dreadlords. My favorite is Ultra-drive! Sorry about your Terror Star. They are expensive to build and move verrry slooow.

Funny, I seem to get the Zoo every game. Last game my Survey ship walked into 3 of the little blitters and TOOK THEM OUT! :CONGRAT: I couldn't beleive my eyes, even my warships weren't that powerful.

One interesting thing I did find in that game, was that I lead the monsters to another players star base. The monsters just sat there, next to the star base and my small bait fleet on the other side of the star base. Then the UP met and it was voted that attacking starbases was NOT illigle - and the monsters destroyed the star base the very next turn - wow Law abidding monsters!

Yes Ted, Terror Stars are expensive! Never mind though, I still had 2 left. :)

hehe Yeah, that's definatly a bug...space monsters and pirates should ignore UP Laws :) I'll fix that for the next release.

Now that you mention it, yes the Pirates also do not destroy star bases based on current UP law. Look forward to the next build.

While on topic of pirates .. i'd like to see them appear more aften during the game. If could associated their appearance (or chance) with periods of galactic conflict would seem to make sense to me .. police work breaks down more chance for pirates.
Just one spice of game viewpoint....

Pirates always have battle cruisers. For mid to end game, they should target the mini-freighters.
