How to install a screensaver

I messed up big-time

Get this:

I had AutoCAD Installed, so the .scr extension shows up as an AutoCAD Script File. So I opened up the registry editor and modified the .scr extention's default Parameter from "AutoCAD Script File" to "Screen Saver" manualy. And obviosly this didnt help(not to mention how stupid it was to try this), so I uninstalled AutoCAD. But still the ScreenSaver files do not show up as screen savers. Instead they show up as "Default(Blank) Files".

So anyone here has idea of how to fix this problem.

Try downloading and running the "SCR" fix from here http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm

That should give you back the functionality.

If you have issues with the icons in "C:\WINDOWS\System32" folder not being correct for the screensaver files, you can try creating a "DefaultIcon" (REG_SZ) sub-key under "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\scrfile", and give it a "%1" value.

Note - this sub-key is not there under a clean installation of the OS, but has been known to provide a workaround fix for the file icon issue.
