Christmas Eve Build Here

http://draginol.stardock.com/temp/galciv.zip

I think one of the two main crashing bugs is addressed in this build. The one that isn't fixed is the tribute one because no matter what I do, I just haven't had it show up.

But the other one, the crash while ships are moving, I got that quite a bit.

There have been more updates to the AI and performance enhancements. These performance enhancements have to do with calculating whethre a star system is defended or not so keep an eye out for star systems that have shields or are missing shields when they shouldn't.

Would really like some feedback regarding PERFORMANCE. How this compares to beta 4 for instance.

Something different in the debug file! Nice work brad

I haven't downloaded this yet, but the prior exe. you put out did a great job with performance. Nice smooth animations of ship movement, nice explosions - not freezing. Just wanted to let you know.

haven't bogged down at all however this note about the a.i. built diplomatic translators, worth 3000 1 turn to the alexians, the yor wouldn't trade a single colony ship (this is very early in the game so i think that might be allright, but he would trade 5 techs and a class 26 system (his home world) interesting. I now have watch auto turn ships on and it's really moving on this 1.6 p4 system

i've got 50+ ships and i'm watching all the autopilot ships and my head is getting dizzy because the screen is changing so fast. Does that give you an idea about the performance!!!!

purposely lost a game, liked the animation regreting mu demise! 2 things happened while trying things

1. altarians demanded tribute, i gave them their 360bc and at the end of the turn the altarians declared war on me. i don't think it was supposed to that. Loading a saved game from this new zip the main display screen (right side had the verticle stripes of colors

the debug said 404 ships and i think i waited at most 2 seconds wow!!! :CONGRAT: :CONGRAT: :CONGRAT: :D :CONGRAT:

I haven't gotten any desktop crashes, but the program started freezing. In several hours it happened twice. I had to reboot

I don't know what you did with this build, but it finally "fixed" the sound problem in planet screen for me (SB Live Value on XP). Though the "fix" seems to be that it doesn't play any sounds or music when that screen is opened, but even this is much better than those very annoying beeps and clicks.

Yea I got rid of the birds singing on that screen. ;)

Yeah, I've had that problem with the vertical stripes on the right hand side loading a saved game with prior builds.

by the way, random events appear less often in Beta 4 than Beta 3. I don't like that.
WHich kind of random events?
Yea, I think the stripes are fixed in this build.
I think I have gotten fewer "colonizing new planet" events. And after many hours of playing I haven't got any other kind of random event. There was one about space monster, but I never seen the monster.

another thing, when loading from save file, the game fails to initialize speed and range bonuses given by technology.

Here's a save file:
http://64.60.177.194/lame_game.zip

Look at the movement stats of selected ship. 4/1
That's cause all the speed bonuses weren't counted. It gets fixed after playing a few turns.

This has already been discussed. And did you try this with last night's build?
Much smooth almost no wait time between turns even later midgame in a gigantic galaxy where everyone has a ton of ships and two wars are going on! Random events, the type that give a choice not the story events that don't, seem to be occuring much less often though thats only from one game so far so could have just been luck of the draw.

Noticed that colony ships from th AI stack up when headed to a system and someone else beats them to it. have seen up to 6 colony ships around a system and they just stay there seems like unable to redirect to another system if 1st one gets taken. Using latest galciv, exe from above and started a new game.

Does a great job at speeding everything up. I was playing on a huge galaxy and everything seemed fine - except explosions still seemed a bit of of whack. However, at the end of the game, I was missing my graphs of various factors - military, technology, etc.
