"use as mask" question

problems implementing an animated object as a mask on a static object

Does anyone have a link to a widget/object/tutorial that uses one object as a mask for another object?

I am aware of the psuedo mask approach that has been used in some slide widgets. But this doesnt take use of the "use as mask" option under the properties > states > advanced tab. it just uses a transparent gif and sets another object to equal the width and/or height of it.

i know in the advanced tab there is a "use as mask" but i am a noob and therefor unaware of how to get that working...
EG do i have to set a parent? does it have to be grouped? does object z order matter?

any help would be much appreciated.

Well, i managed to find out this (seemingly simple) detail for myself.
Turns out you have to set the object to be masked as the child of the mask object. And the use as mask has to be checked obviously.

The problem i am having now is that when i animate the mask using a script on the mask object, the object that is being masked changes its anchor point. So not very useful at this point in time. If i continue to hit walls or find a solution i will post a widget as an example in the near future.

Sorry to bump FYI you've got to lock the child object (object being masked).
