Ships transporting smaller fighters?

is it possible to make a mod that would allow u to dock other small fighters to a large ship?

Might be worth having a carrier ship with a custom module which increased the logistics rating of a fleet it was in but only for logistics 2&3 vessels that the ship didn’t carry the fighters wouldn’t mater since they would all be launched in combat any way

No idea how to program that but it’s just a thought

Maybe in place of weapons system (lasers, missiles, etc.) a fighters option could be included. When ship fires, fighters come out hit and return to mother ship. Just a thought on a possible carrier. Plus increased life support or logistics could be added to a fleet containing a carrier.

no, but that is a cool idea. then smaller ships might be more useful in the game as you can stuff more weapon on it instead of lots of engines and life support systems.

The thing about small ships is that in the mid game they achieve high numbers and can thus nag single big ships very nicely. But on the downside they can't carry large engines because they'd have to sacrifice punch and defense for that.
The carrier would be necessary to enable these fighters to travel large distances and far into space.
But unfortunately GC2's modding system doesn't seem to understand 'actions' but can only exchange 'values' which makes adding features, even the smallest, impossible.

you could of course reduce fighters' (tiny hull) logistics usage to 0 (unfortunately no float values allowed), so you can have carrier battle groups involving a whole lot of small ships and one "carrier". Of course, that wouldn't really add the feature, but it's as close as it gets.

Just a thought that came to me from looking through the english.str file, theres a list in there of abilities it includes stuff like shipabilityclonize, shipabilitycontruct etc for all the special acions and such. However there one called shipabilitydockships, I'm guessing this is designed for the starport or maybe for planets. But is there a way that a module could be made to make use of that ability? I've not seen it elsewhere yet but if it is this then it seems a pretty straightforward way to make carriers?
