Does not appear to be a valid desktop x package??

I was wondering why on some widgets that you download when you try to edit them in desktop X builder why sometimes you get the message Does not appear to be a valid desktop X package? any one know why thanks

Sounds like they are not Widgets, but rather Gadgets. If the author does not make it clear in their description that the object is a Gadget, this is the usual way you'll find that out.

Widgets are meant to work alongside DesktopX, and as you know, can be imported and modified. Gadgets are stand-alone and cannot be reimported into DX.

Because they are Gadgets as Rabidrobot stated - that is the message you will get in DesktopX when you try to edit a Gadget - which I have run across a few that were in Widget Gallery and not identified as Gadgets. I can only assume the Author Exported them as a Gadget by accident.
