can't save personal settings in a desktop theme

hi,
new here and trying out DesktopX... it's very cool. one problem. i found some themes i like... they have "buttons" or text that you can change to your own programs and settings... but, when i try another theme, and DX asked me if i want to save the current theme (with my settings, i'm assuming) i give it a file name, save it and then it's GONE. when i come back that theme i can only choose the original from the themes list and all my changes to the settings are gone.
how do i save a theme i like and make changes to... so that if i try something else i can go back and still have MY settings?
