Pirating

Im curious, how are you going to protect GalCiv from beeing pirated?
The expansion pack you mentioned might end up beeing pirated just as easy as the game it self... Do you have any other means of security as cd-keys has proven itself to be ineffective many times over?

Not our security keys. Ultimatley, if you're not in our databaes, well you're not in our database.

If someone puts out a serial #, we just disable that account.

And while someone could try to create a serial generator, the verification portion takes place on our server, not on the client. That's why you won't find an Object Desktop serial # generator or codes.

Sure, people can take the actual files and try to put them up there but on the other hand, that gets to be quite a pain in the butt. Especially when you're dealing with patches and such.

You can't sure all piracy, but if you make it inconvenient and combine it with plenty of free updates you take away a lot of the incentive. This isn't some sort of $800 graphics package afterall, it's a $40 game. There's only so much hassle one will go through to save 40 bucks.

Hmm, seems like you guys have it pretty secure then, congrats :)

I for one think its ok to use cracks and such to get rid of the computers constant wining for the cd.. but only if you already own the game of course... btw, must the CD be in the drive while playing GalCiv?

My understanding is that galciv will be available to download by buying the game online. Initially the beta testers were told that they could get a CD by paying a little extra for shipping and handling.

I don't know how it will work for people that buy the game in the store and install off of the CD.

I'd like to second Nidaros' question. Will the cd be required in the drive when playing?

Nope. No CD required.
