Tribute to continue after war declared?

In an effort to make peace with the Torians, I proposed a peace treaty in which I agreed to pay a tribute of 17 credits per turn for the next 100 turn. The Torians accepted the offer.

My concern is, after less than 10 turns, the Torians decared war on me again. However, I noticed that I am still paying tribute to the Torian even thought I am now at war with them.

Is this correct?

Yep. That's one of the risks one takes when bribing for peace.

What about if you demand tribute from AI for making peace with them but the next turn declare war on them and demand more tribute for new peace agreement. Wont that be open to abuse???

Does war cancel every deal except those with a peace agreement in them, or war simply doesn't affect deals at all?

In other words, if I buy a tech for X credits/100 turns and then there is a war after 10 turns, will I have to pay for the remaining 90 turns?

Maybe for 1.1, you could select whether or not to pay your debts from the economy screen. Non-payment could lead to war, and to distrust and a decrease in your diplomatic skill/influence with other races. i.e. Races will only accpet payment up front from those deadbeat humans. ;) Also, if a race's economy prevents it from making its payments, there is a similar result.

mmmmm... Brad, I wonder if in reality diplomacy would do that. Wouldn't the payment be stopped from the moment the war is started (since you wont help the one at war with you) and then the payment would not continue for "continuing the war"? At least for a while after, no?... Do we have a historical case?

IMO, if someone attacks me, all of the debts I own them are null and void. And I don't see any reason why any of my allies or other friends would fault me for that.
