Change to Alliances

I have hearded countless complaints about how the Alliance Victory is too easy. This is what I would love Stardock to do to change to make it more interesting.

Currently, when you make an alliance, the relationship slider goes all the way to the right. I propose that instead the relationship bar should fluctuate as normal, with the addition of a positive "alliance" relationship modifier. If your relationship starts to sink (about warm), then you will have to renegotiate your alliance. If it goes down a lot (to about neutral), then the alliance should fall apart entirely. This would make bribing your way into an alliance much harder, and would now your ally will complain if you try to crush them with influence. Finally the player needs to hold the alliances together for a certain number of turns, allowing time for it to fall a part if you simply bribed your way in.

It's a nice idea. I don't know whether it can happen, but I've certainly never seen one of my alliances break unless either I do it, or that leader assasination event pops up. I never understood why 'War' or 'Alliance' were set as positions on the relationship bar rather than seperate treaties in the first place.

I do not know how to do this. I am simply hoping Stardock will come and read this. Speaking of which, does anyone know a more direct way to get Stardock's attention? Does this forum hava a PM feature? Does anyone know Stardock's E-mail?

Stardock is watching, even if we don't reply

One thing you might also try though is adding your ideas to the 'what do you want in the expansion' threads and other large threads like it, so if one of the devs reads through it, they will see your idea there as well.

Thanks, Darth Kyro. You do not work for/with Stardock, by any chance? The way you said "Stardock is watching, even if WE don't reply" makes it sound like you do. But anyway, I have posted my idea in the topic Dark Avatar: Which features do you want the most? I hope someone "up there" has seen in now.

And while Stardock is at it, they might as well make it possible to break alliances with Minor races. It is because of this alone that I never make alliances with them.

I'm the head moderator on the forums here (mavx is the same rank as I am, and there are some other lower-ranked moderators, but I do most of it...). As of today I'm officially on contract with Stardock, so I should be getting a "Stardock" icon shortly

I read every problem thread and at least skim most other threads, so if something is reported or suggested, at least I'll generally see it.

I have a slight update for my proposal. In v. 1.3, the AI is not so trusting af their allies. I once got a message from the Arceans to "Get your transports out now!" Really, that's what they said! Short and to the point.

I still think, however, that it would be best if "War" and "alliance" were not points on the relation bar, but seperate treaties, if possible. Both of these things will come with an relationship modifier. ("-- War" "++ Alliance")

I agree with the op, war or alliance shouldn't be a state of a relationship, as much as it is an effect or cause of said state. I don't think the world of politics are quite that black and white.

Do SOMETHING with alliances, anything, couldn't be worse than they are now.
