Gamasutra is reporting that Microsoft has given South African native, Neill Blomkamp, the nod to direct the motion picture based on Bungie's Halo franchise. Blomkamp is a short film and commercial director who will be making his feature film debut with the Halo picture.

Last year Blomkamp won three Clio awards and a Visual Effects Society award for his TV commercial Citroen-Alive with Technology. He was also recognized as a "Top Five Directors to Watch" in 2004 at the First Boards Awards, was a featured artist at the Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors Showcase at Cannes, and was nominated for an Emmy award for his work on an episode of James Cameron's Dark Angel.

The Halo motion picture is currently scheduled for release in Summer 2008.

Yes, especially after all the demands Microsoft put on any studio who took the project.

Nifty, I guess we'll have to see how he does with the transition to the big screen with a huge budget.
