Give me a good AI...

...and I'll be happy. Graphics aren't too important to me (as long as they're functional), sound isn't too important to me (as long as it's not annoying), but AI is.

SE-IV lacked in this category, and I've decided not to buy MOO3 after hearing about its dubious AI. Developers should understand that in these types of games, the AI is the most important characteristic. Bells and whistles are nice, but if there was a choice to be made between more features or more challenging gameplay, I think most of us would definitely choose the challenging gameplay.

So, please don't neglect the AI in this game. It looks like a winner so far, but keep it a priority.. And NO CHEATING! ;)

Thanks.. Looking forward to the game.

If it is of any asurance they have been toning down the AI because it was to hard. And it does't cheat ;)

I agree, AI is the most important, but I have to say that I need good graphics too, and cool sound. It helps me get into the game so much more. I have MOO3 and I had prepared myself for average graphics, but when I actually saw them...well, some were okay, but the font really ruined the feel of the game. So far, everything I've seen about GalCiv seems good although I'm not sure I like the comical AI responses I've seen in screen shots. "We'll liquify you and spread you over toast", can you imagine an real diplomat saying that?

I love the "diplomacy" language in GC LOL ... I makes me laugh every time. Btw from what I hear the game will be modable so you can make your own responses if you like ;)

I agree that some of the diplomacy language seems a little cheesy. Also, some of the decision options are worded like that. A bit too 'tongue-in-cheek' for what I considered to be a serious galactic simulation.

Well, if it's modable then that will be okay, but I'm not that computer literate so I don't know if I would be able to figure it out. :p

Ancient Warrior, I don't think you will need to be big computer buff to make changes to the game. I hear they will be releasing a utility to help you with that ;)

Hmm...diplomacy techs

I believe you're saying that either that race has not discovered a hight enough diplomacy tech to know how to talk to a different race correctly, or that my diplomacy techs aren't high enough to accurately translate what they're saying. Maybe I'm way off, but it's a good guess I think. :p

The responses are in a text file. But I like them. When you play the game over and over again the humor really makes the game more fun. It's a little off putting sometimes at first but for me it makes the game a lot livelier.

hi ancient warrior

It's your diplomacy that sucks, If we can't talk correctly to them, or don't know that mucj about them (another hint) then errors can occur :-) there are many levels of diplomacy tech to research, And how powerful you are also affects how the a.i. responds to you.

As was mentioned earlier, races that are more warlike or otherwise less-than-friendly (the Yor, for one, want to destroy organic life...they're probably not going to be inclined to acknowledge humanity unless you can force them to) may well use undiplomatic speech.

Your diplomacy ability (relative to the individual AI) also affects both your messages and those of the AI, as does your relative military power, your diplomatic relationship with that race, and several other factors.

I swear, I'll be screaming at the screen. "I'd never say that! Never! Stupid game!" Even if I go change it, though, their reaction to it would still be negative. Better to know what they're actually hearing, right?
