DesktopX Themes

Personal Preferences

I've made 2 DX Themes. I want to thank all who helped, critiqued, and downloaded. I have a question for those who use the Themes. Any Themes.

What do you look for? I know these answers will be widely varied, but I am curious. What features (weather, DXPlayer, etc) and anything else you want to throw in.

What links and/or shortcuts?

Finally, the one thing I am confused on is the whole 'tool tip' thing. A few people have said they don't like it, especailly if they want to change the link. A few say they prefer it. My thought is, without, you have a cleaner dektop. Just my thought. I could see if the icons/images are generally generic (a glass orb(s)) you may want the tool tip to identify it. Or not. Or you just don't care, you just want more blinking flashing stuff.

I'm curious to hear your responses.

#1 on my list - Resoution Independent.
I run a dual monitor system at work so no DX but I run 1600x1200 at home and it seems like every theme is 1280x1024 which is a bastard size to begin with. If it's Resolution Independent I download it. If not I don't.

Both of yours looks good tho.....

I would like to have something similiar to your dock that has the "Start Menu, My Comp., Internet" links on it in KHDragon 1280 x 1024. When that dock is open and you hover your mouse over the icon (object) you see a name appear under it. This really isn't a tooltip, but at least I can change those names and the shorcut.

That's what I meant before...not really a tooltip that pops up on mouse over.

hi. I am a newbie and i do not have the knowledge base to make any of the things avaliable on wincustomize. I would like to learn and am reading all the tutorials I can get my hands on. Until I can make my own from the pictures i have taken there are a few things I would like to have on my desktop that I cannot find as a widget or a object. I use notepad everyday and would like an object that opens it directly also many of the weather widgets and objects are wonderful but I cannot find one that includes barometric pressure. I also would like to have an object that I can easily use to store my desktop papers, pictures, notes, and other items I seem to collect on here. None of the Objects presently out seem to allow me to place them into something that I can open find the item ihave stored on my desktop and then close it back up therefore eliminating my desktp clutter but allowing me to have these things avaliable to me. Maybe I have missed that feature. I use for my mail outlook express and yahoo. I would like to have a choice of some objects that are more feminine. I do not mean they have to be flowers and all just some that are more complimentary to a desktop picture of my quilts or family members or my knitting or crotchetng or needlepoint, teapot collection or Norman Rockwell teacup collection. Thank you

I have no idea how to do this. I thought I had with the last, but when I tested it, it was a no go. I agree. I just have to figure out how to do it.

This really isn't a tooltip,

Okay. In the 1024 version, I made them their own txt objects toggled by the icons. That's what you prefer, instead of the tooltips?

Look for objects or themes with 'Drag And Drop' features. (Like my Metro or Koppelberg Dragon themes..plug, plug)

The other things you mentioned, I believe exist. Browse the DesktopX Object gallery. A lot of these you can just redirest the target on if you see something you would like to use. You can also use PNG's to make an object and set your own target with DesktopX Builder.

For the feminine stuff...I've been waiting so long to say this...you need to check out The Babes of Skinning. They have a lot of their stuff here and over at Skinartistry where they can be often be found in the chatbox or chatroom. 47 Songs, Bebop, Aimzzz. Tell 'em Po' sent ya!

Yes. Incorporating those text objects to the bottom docks is what I prefer. I originally did not suggest this because I don't believe the average user will know how to change the text in those objects. When I suggested tooltips, I was thinking of those users. Your text objects look way better, though.

Anyway, take my advice with a grain of salt Po. Hope I helped.

Lo Po' That wallpaper in KHDragon is the f**kin Bomb... Anyway.. what I usually have in the desktops I make are the following 3:

1. DXPlayer Controls (mainly WinAmp based) which includes:
- Clip Name (Track title)
- Basic Controls (Play, Pause, Next, Previous, etc)
- Volume Controls

2. Common Programs - which are just shortcuts to open my most used programs (i.e. Fireworks, MSN, Blender)

3. Internet - sometimes a custom browser, but always a Quick Links drop down menu

Also in regards to "ToolTips" I usually have only one tooltip label of sorts that stays invisible until an object is highlighted/hovered over then it just says what its for... then fades away thats my tooltip hehe
