Governments: Is IMPERIAL viable long term?
from
Stardock Forums
I have not played the beta and I am curious about the forms of government. I read the AAR that Brad posted, adn I am wondering if Imperial is a viable long term Government type.
The online manual doesn’t give much information about the different government types.
Basically this:
-----------------------------------------
Imperial
This is what you start out with.
Republic
This has the benefit of increasing your economic power by around 20%. However, if you lose control of the senate, you lose your political party bonuses.
Democracy
It is harder to maintain control of the senate but you receive a 40% economic bonus.
Federation
Your civilization will receive a 60% economic bonus but it becomes very hard to maintain control of the senate.
--------------------------------------------
For those that play the game, do you find yourself always upgrading to Democracy or Republic for the massive economic benefits?
Are there any benefits to Imperial besides total senate control? Perhaps its easier to protect your trade routes, because your are (to steal a star wars line) bringing Law and Order to the Galaxy.
Thinking back to Civilization players were basically forced to switch from Monarchy to Republic or Democracy because corruption would become unmanageable. But gosh darn it I like being an Emperor. I want to be an Emperor Augustus in space, bringing stable good government to the Galaxy. And I would rather not have to deal with a proportional representation green party German Euro-weenie like Parliament.
So, is Imperial a totally viable long term government, or will I be quickly surpassed by Democratic 40%+ or Federation 60%+ economies?
