Trevor Horn knows his insecre friend can become a major success in the sober “Owner Of A Lonely Heart.”

A decisive guitar solo opens the single, setting a purposeful tone. In the first verse, he motivates his friend to not waste away his life at a dead-end job and spending money on drinks. Horn says his friend should show he’s worth more than minimum wage. A decision to send his resume out to an agency for an internship or taking a class at the college could help him in the long-run. He says his friend has to envision himself writing out briefs and researching. His friend needs to realize he has to stop waiting for life to happen for him.
“Move yourself/You always live your life/Never thinking of the future/Prove yourself/You are the move you make/Take your chances, win or loser/See yourself/You are the steps you take/You and you, and that's the only way/Shake , shake yourself/You're every move you make/So the story goes.”

In the chorus, he says his friend sees himself failing at his chosen profession and prefers not to have his dreams shattered.
“Owner of a lonely heart/Owner of a lonely heart/Much better than a/Owner of a broken heart/Owner of a lonely heart.”

In the second verse, his friend told Horn he has been disillusioned. It seems like with each thing he tries, he fails and it has scared into not trying. Horn says even the eagle has starved and hurt its wings. However, the eagle is brave and nurses his injured wings and hunts farther for food. He never gives up. Horn advises his friend not let others define him. If he doesn’t want to succeed, he will have proven his critics right.
“Say, you don't want to chance it/You've been hurt so before/Watch it now/The eagle in the sky/How he dancin' one and only/You, lose yourself/No not for pity's sake/There's no real reason to be lonely/Be yourself/Give your free will a chance/You've got to want to succeed.”

The chorus is sung again.

In the bridge, he explains people didn’t believe in his dreams, either. At first, he thought the critics in his life were right and listened to their opinions about him. However, once he thought about it, he realized he was doing what other people wanted him to do. His instincts told him he could do it and go after his dreams. He had to think it through and have a plan. However, he couldn’t wait. He had to catch each opportunity.
“Owner of a lonely heart/After my own decision/They confused me so (owner of a lonely heart)/My love said never question your will at all/In the end you've got to go/Look before you leap (owner of a lonely heart) /And don't you hesitate at all

An exhilarated (and heavily sampled) synth solo is next which is followed by an ambitious guitar solo.

The chorus is sung again.

In the second bridge, he says the end of every experience will give him confidence and a step closer to becoming what he’s always wanted to be. However, he has to remember to pay attention to his instincts.
“Owner of a lonely heart/Owner of a lonely heart) Sooner or later each conclusion/Will decide the lonely heart (owner of a lonely heart)/It will excite it will delightIt will give a better start (owner of a lonely heart)/Don't deceive your free will at all/Don't deceive your free will at all/Don't deceive your free will at all/Just receive it.”

Horn doesn’t like to see his friend discouraged and letting go of his dreams. His friend is capable of being an CEO, if he wanted. However, he’s had too many rejections, which he has begun to perceive as the truth. Horn tries to relate to him by telling him about the transitional phase into adulthood and reassures him everything will work out.

Horn’s earnest vocals are involved and direct. He’s not going to lead his friend the wrong way and wishes to clue him on the reality of what he’s doing to life. To see his friend broken saddens him.

The synths intend to inspire with fiery jolts and crashes while the stern guitars provide a heedful undertone.

“Owner Of A Lonely Heart” is memorable for its complex instrumentation and positive message.
