Newbie Question: Differences between MOO3 and GalCiv?

Hi guys,

here's my first post! I feel all warm and fuzzy inside ;)

I bought - and returned - MOO3 last week (returned it today).

I was - still am - abig fan of Moo1 and 2 and I guess I was expecting a MOO2.5. However, I'm also a big fan of EU and EUII, so I figured I'd give MOO3 an extended try. Iread the manual, the readme file and everything else. Played 80 turns as a Human, 180 as an Evon and 200 as a Klackon. Never finished the game though.

The few things that bugged me (and this is only my opinion):

1. Unpolished interfaced: I read somewhere here that they had 5 visual designer for this game??? You wouldn't believe it looking at it (BTW, I work in a major IT company with lots of designer and trust me, MOO3 is very basic from that level)

2. Innumerous bugs and non-logical rules: Well, like I said, I liked EU and EUII so for those of you who played these games, you'll know how buggy the first versions were. However, Paradox was very quick in issuing bugs and trully took to heart what the communicty was suggesting to them. Didn't get that felling from MOO3 and the posts I read (and I read A LOT!!).

3. No visual and audio atmosphere: well the audio is ok, but VERY repetitive. as for the visual, it's non-existing. Screw the Force, never underestimate the power of eye candy!

4. Tedious play: my overall impression of my 3 games was that all I did was click "end turn" and read SitReps. That's all. there are no real actions to undertake. It's a bit boring (and no, I'm not a RTS fan, far from it)

5. Combats: What the heck were they smoking?? It looks like two seperate games that were stitched together. It doesn't make sense to have real-ytime combats when your whole game is spent analyzing reports and looking into queues. Sure it's a nice diversion, but it's so wonky and featurless that really, you'll end up leaving the AI to do the fighting and just watch it.

Anyway, this is why I brought it back (to the great pleasure of my spouse who can now breath a sigh of relief that she will see me in the next month (she is still reeling from EU ;P )).

Now for my newbie question:

what are the main differences between GalCiv and MOO3 (I haven't followed the dev of GalCiv that much since I was putting all my eggs in the MOO3 basket) other than the single player thing, the metaverse and the human race being the only one you can play?

thanks
