Wars that never end

A game of Galactic Civilizations tends to turn around the invention into a huge war that never ends. For example in one of the games a war between the Drengin and their Yor allies and an alliance consisting of the rest of the universe. 34 years into it I got so sick I resigned the game. Every time I made peace with them and bribed my allies to do so the war restarted a month later. In order to stop this kind of thing I think a 1 year truce period should be introduced after peace has been negotiated with a civ. Special events and alliance comitmants with allies will not be affected by this rule.

I agree, it's a good idea. :)

Possibly through an expanded role for the UP. Instead of just voting on motions be able to propose them, i.e. a cease-fire across the galaxy with a one year limit

i agree a truce-period should be enforced because its frustrating when an AI offers a peace treaty only to declare war again to honor their alliance.

why even offer it in the first place then?

I guess it comes down to the choice of breaking an alliance vs continuing a war.

I would think especially a weak civ would break an alliance rather than keep fighting itself to the death to honor it.

Do the puter civs ever break an alliance? If they were allowed to that might shake things up a bit in other ways though.

Another thing. When you're allied with two different civs at war with each other, I doubt either would just sit there and not expect you to come to their aid. It's like. Oh we're in mortal combat with the Drengin, but since you're allied with both of us, we'll just let you sit it out.
Civ did it pretty well.

Whether a civ honours an alliance comitment in the first place is down largely to the comparitive militery might of the two civs. If they're too weak to possibly win and they're already in a war they surrender to a stronger allied civilization. Minor civ's aren't allowed to surrender though. I think that minor civs should be able to surrender to any other minor civilizations that inhabit the same sector, to the I leugue (for neutral and evil civs) and the fundies (for neutral and good civs).

I think the truce-periode is a great idea.

That would also limit the extortion possibilities (offer peace treaty to week AI just before taking over last system)

And it would also allow stuff other that fighting to be done for at least a year after a war is over.

Perhaps the truce perioud could be broken but with negative effects on relations, morale and influence.
