laptop usually doesnt boot up...

Recently my laptop has started to power down during booting into windows. The loading screen appears, usually for about 5 seconds(ish) then it looses power. (the battery has not worked for about two years now, so it is premanently plugged into the wall).

It's at the point where it looses powere more often than it boots up.

does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?

What make and model? How old?

I have a 1st gen tabletPC and every once in a while it will hang on the BIOS screen. Turns out it's just a flaw in the design. You may have the same issue.

Or, laptops get shaken about. You could have any number of crossed wires in there. Do you ever lose paower after it's started?

Just a guess but I'd say it's most likely hardware related. I had an Armada a while back that started doing the same thing. It turned out to be broken solder connections at the power port.

You might want to bring it to a shop to have it cleaned out and looked at. I crack my laptops at least 2 times a year and clean out oll the dust and debris, and to have a poke around making sure all is well inside. I also install a heat spreader on every laptop I take apart.

I open it now and then to repair the power connector, the solder comes loose now and then. Its perfectly fine after windows loads up, it just takes my four or fivr goes to get it that far. I've started to think windows hasnt installed properly or perhaps my hard drive is going bad.
As for its age its about 4 years old and has been used almost every day sinse it was bought. what is a head spreader? do you mean that whacking great sheet of metal attached to the cpu? it so, then it has one, and two fans.
Perhaps reinstalling windows might help?
