plantes vs races

does the game take into account the race while deciding if the planet is habitable and if so to what extent, or is it all generic regardless of the race?

Not yet. Int hup coming expansion Dark Avater there will be differant planet types, not all of which can be used initially. I don't know if certain races can use certain types earlier, so you will have to either look around, or wait for someone with more info to answer.

As Brad noted in his journal on super abilities, a couple of the races will have access to some special worlds at the start. Everyone else starts with only access to 'normal' planets.
