I absolutely love visiting people but have noticed a strange and sad trend amongst most of our neighbors/friends. So many people these days feel their house has to be all clean and perfect before they will invite you in. I wasn't raised that way at all. Matter of fact, I tell friends that they are welcome any time at all to come see us but if they want to see the house, they have to give forwarning.
I would never judge another because their house is messy on any given day. We live in our houses, don't we? Things tend to get untidy when you use them. Our house explodes constantly with 2 boys having free reign. I know there are friends that judge me about this but I don't care. Sure, I love to have my house clean and show worthy. I just can't have it that way all the time!
If you have the choice between inviting a friend in to visit even though the house is a mess, and turning them away, I would hope you would choose the former. In the end, wouldn't you rather be able to say "I spent every minute I could with family and friends" than "I always had a clean house."
Life is too busy to wait until conditions are perfect. I spend a lot of time with the friends that will just invite me in no matter what, and don't see much of the others.
