Cold Sores

Oh joy. I awoke this morning to find the somewhat painful start of a cold sore on my lower lip. I've suffered from these things most of my life. While they are hardly debilitating or even mildly serious they are annoying as hell.

I've tried a number of different remedies over the years to try and speed up their healing and minimize the eruption, but in all honesty none of them really work.

I know that there are some prescription drugs used to treat the Herpes virus that causes cold sores but they do have side effects and as annoying as the cold sores can be they just don't seem serious enough to warrant putting strong drugs into my system.

There really isn't any point to this article. Just bitching mostly. :LOL:

Mason, I don't use those things like Zovirax etc. They just seem to soften it up. I dab on surgical spirits couple of times a day to dry the bastard out. I wince like a dog with a thorn in its foot but it seems to work.

I don't even bother with something like that. If one is too bad I'll use some ointment to numb it a bit, but that's about it. They pass soon enough on their own anyway.

My mom swears by Campho Phenique.


That stuff does a good job of drying them out, but that's about it I think.

Go buy yourself facial cotton wool pads and surgical spirits, pour spirits on the cotton wool pad, gently dab on to the cold sore ensuring the whole sore gets a good dousing. Do not rub or scub just saturate it. The let it dry - do this at least 4 times per day, I do this for pimples when I get them, clears them chop chop

My daughter had an outbreak of achne on her forhead and surgical spirits cleared it all up within two weeks - no reason not to try it on a cold sore.

I'd rather just leave it alone so I can complain about it longer.
