News events

Instead of having to look in the diplomacy screen every turn to see what is going on with your neighbors, these news event should be added to give the game a more involved feel.

1.) Any time a major or minor civ goes to war a news event should pop up to let you know.
2.) Any time a major or minor civ ends a war a news event should pop up.
3.)If any civilization is down to one system and an ivading fleet is heading for that system, a news event should let you know. Perhaps it would read, " empire appears to be sending an invasion fleet to , this colony is the last stronghold belonging to the civilization. If it falls their civilization will be wiped out.

This third news event would be helpful in allowing you to defend that planet if they were an ally or if you traded with them, or for other reasons.

4.)A news event should pop up every time a civilization has been destroyed.

5.)A news event should pop up every time a planet gets invaded by any civ, major or minor, regardless of whether the invasion was successful or not.

I realize these news events could occur quite frequently in a game, therefor have filters that would allow you to choose which of these news events you want reported. Of course they wouldn't pop up randomly while the computer is making its decisions, just at the beggining of every turn.

Do you think these options might be viable for a patch or an expansion?

This would have to be toggleable as you noted. I loathed Civ3 telling me all the time what was happening in the world. If I want to know, I'll get a status report myself, dangit!

If you do it like they did in EU2 it could work, in EU2 you would recive a message everytime ANYTHING happend.. BUT you could right-click in the window to select if you wanted to see this kind of message "on screen", "in the log" or not at all... THAT was great

I thought Brad was going to do this in the News events.

Nidaros... that was hell, going through the Options to change every single message setting to 'Show Message and Pause.' Took forever...

Jythier, you just had to do it when you got the first message. of course if you did it before hand it was a bit overwhelming, but if you did it as they happened, it was quite painless LOL

But all those times it wasn't pausing completely threw off my game, yanno? :D

Perhaps an Options area to indicate what type of News you want to see would be possible in the Summer Expansion pack? Then you would be able to set it up to show whats important to you.

Suggestion: wait until you play the released game before making suggestions that are already in the game. ;)
