Variety reports that the Halo film has hit a large bump in the road. Financiers 20th Century Fox and Universal Studios have both left the project over concerns over the budget, which has been rumored to be reaching some $200 million.

Ken Kamins, a representative for the film's producers, Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, stated that the producers felt they were pressured into lowering their budget at the last minute, causing them as well as Microsoft and Bungie to reject the idea. Ken elaborates that, "The only budget the filmmakers ever spoke about was $145 million less the 12.5% rebate that you get from shooting in New Zealand, which would put it at about $128 million. That was the only number that was ever discussed."

According to Kamins the loss of the studios will not hamper the film's production, which is already underway in New Zealand.
