'Prey' Getting Sequel

3D Realms Changing Model

3D Realms' latest release Prey has managed to break the one-million units sold barrier, undeniably putting it in the 'successful' category of games according to Scott Miller's blog. Aside from going on to bash episodic gaming and discussing how Apogee Software, 3D Realms' company name, pioneered the shareware distribution model, the CEO also let slip that the million-selling Prey will be seeing a sequel. "There will be a sequel, and we think we have a interesting follow-up story to tell and some all-new innovations to bring new excitement to the table," typed Miller.

Miller also made note that he will be making 3D Realms "a studio polygamist, teaming up with more than one studio, working on perhaps 4-6 external projects simultaneously, creating new IPs and hopefully helping more and more deserving, talented independent studios achieve financial independence, and the ability to call their their own creative shots in the future."

The new strategy, which Miller actually compares to the company's roots, has been initiated to try and create more studios akin to id Software, Remedy and Human Head Studios, while still producing blockbuster games, with both companies reaping the benefits.
