I've a question for any of the Beta testers about Galactic Civilizations.

I've been looking over the forums and so far have not seen very much information on how fun the actual game is. So, I thought it would go ahead and ask, is this game any fun? I've always liked turn based strategy games such as Warlords 3, Disciples 2, and Heroes of Might and Magic IV. Now I know this list does not include very many space strategy games, in fact the only one I have ever played was Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. But I do love exploration, and this game seems to have that spades. I recently tried a game called Masters of Orion 3, but it was really too complicated for me. It had most of the elements that I would have wanted in a game, especially space exploration. I guess I'm hoping that Galactic Civilizations will not be as complicated as MOO3. So I give these examples to you that way you can reference them in comparison to Galactic Civilizations. I am looking for as much info as I can.

Also, is there going to be a demo for the game? I would love to try it before I purchase the game but I have heard of no talk of one.

Anyway, thanks ahead of time

Word around the office is that the demo will be released the second week of April. As for the fun factor...well :notsure: I'll leave that for the Beta testers and such to reply to...I doubt you want the opinion of an employee ;)

I think it is fun... and I like all sorts of games... First person shooters, a few real time stratagies... amazingly I prefer multiplayer games, but I really like Gciv... played it from when it was first on os/2(The OLD gciv for anyone who doesn't know...).

Its fun... I think everyone should be able to enjoy it as long as they arn't creating the perfect game in their mind and expecting it(like moo3)...

GalCiv isn't "fun" so much as it is addictive. Very addictive. Extremely addictive. Mind-numblingly addictive. Criminally addictive.
Stardock has much to answer for... as soon as I'm done this game.

End transmission.

I agree with Captain Bizarre. This game goes beyond fun to the level of severe addiction. I prefer strategy games, and have played a lot of them, but none as much as I have played GalCiv, both now and when it was initially released for OS/2. You will NOT be disappointed if you purchase it (unless you have and/or family that will miss you :) )

Yes, I have to agree that this damned game is addictive, there are just so many different ways to play >:( I have not played a game so much since MoO1,Uprising 2 or UT/Freespace demos!

It reminds me of the great times I used to have playing a board game called Stellar Conquest.

I have had so much fun that I'm now modding it - and I've only got the BETA!

This is truely a great game...IMHO :D

How does gameplay compare to other games ? Looks to me that GalCiv has lot in common with Civ2, but has vastly improved background/story, uncomparable AI, and a host of niceties (that doesn't really change gameplay, such has separate queues for ships and projects..)...
Am I right ?
