Bethesda Returns To FPS

'Rogue Warrior' Coming Fall 2007

Bethesda Softworks has announced that they will be returning to the FPS scene with the help of Zombie Studios. The firms have teamed up to develop an original FPS, Rogue Warrior, which is scheduled to release for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 in Fall 2007.

"We are very excited to be working on Rogue Warrior, which allows us the chance to bring Bethesda's creative vision and development expertise to this brand," said Vlatko Andonov, president of Bethesda Softworks. "This game marks our return to shooters since our highly successful Terminator series, and we hope to offer fans a true next-generation gameplay experience."

Rogue Warrior is to be a story-driven tactical shooter set in massive contiguous levels which will be created with the Unreal 3 engine. The game will not rely on heavily-scripted events, instead opting to allow players to get creative in a "freeform battlefield," something that will be present in single- and multi-player maps. Multiplayer will see over 200 maps, with varying settings for day and night battles and 10 different modes. Up to four player "on-the-fly" co-op will be included for the single-player campaign. The "on-the-fly" mode will allow anyone to join or leave a campaign at any time, without disrupting the other combatants.

Dick Marcinko, the title's protagonist, is trapped behind enemy lines in North Korea while assessing the nation's nuclear capabilities. War quickly breaks out between the North and the South, forcing you to lead your men back to the safety of the South while greatly outnumbered, out-supplied and with no support.

"Rogue Warrior is the game we've been waiting to make for years," said Mark Long, lead producer at Zombie Studios. "We're using terrific technology in a way that's different from other games - we have a unique HUD and control system for your teammates, on-the-fly co-op play, and we've really focused our efforts on making multiplayer more fun and challenging by giving you lots of modes and hundreds of maps you can see and play. We're thrilled to be working with Bethesda on this new initiative using a brand we know and love."
