'Tomb Raider' Turns 10, Gets Update

'Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary' Announced for 2007

Eidos has announced an anniversary edition to the game that made Lara Croft a household name. Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary is being based on the original title and is set to raid tombs on PC, PS2 and PSP in 2007.

"Lara Croft is more than just a video game character – she is a digital-celebrity and icon for the video game industry, as well as a strong, powerful character that people of all ages connect with," said Director of Marketing Matt Gorman, Eidos. "We are re-telling an incredible story using today’s technology, we’ve taken all of the key moments from the original game and put them into the context of a brand new Tomb Raider adventure."

Crystal Dynamics will be using the Tomb Raider Legends engine for the upgrade. The technology upgrade won't be the only change though. The team will also bring "more in depth" puzzles and introduce "environmental interaction and physics driven solutions" while maintaining the same level design of the ten year old Tomb Raider.
