i’m a moralistic, optimistic, happy single girl
then i put on a wedding ring and fall into this world ?
a strange man snores beside me. i’m wearing a headband ???
you can call me alice ... i’m in wonderland

i don’t know these people. why are they all so fake ?
(think i’ll stamp my foot and shout “it’s all been a mistake”)
i felt certain that they’d notice when i baulked at the mad hatter
but everyone still smiled as though there was nothing the matter

small things became enormous, and “little bits”, “a lot”
everything tasted funny. rude people shouted “WHAT ?”
and nobody was ever still, nothing was ever clean
(and damn, my stuffy in-laws look just like that king and queen)

i drank some funny stuff that made the whole room spin around
a giant talking rabbit knocked me smack onto the ground
when i woke all was restored, back to its' "proper" size
but something like a warning was now etched behind my eyes

You are an amazing poet. I loved this poem.

Strange when these "coincidental" things happen to me... I'm currently listening to Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters. I mean, strange that your poem has an "Alice in Wonderland" theme and I'm listening to a song that mentions Mad Hatters.

It would be stranger if I were listening to "White Rabbit."

But this poem is incredibly good.

and anne, i love those moments of "synchronicity" to which you refer. they kind of reinforce what you're experiencing ...did that make sense ? :) ... and i have always enjoyed writing poems, i seem to do it instead of speaking aloud when things "move" me ... i feel from your blog that your poetry is motivated in the same way, very pure ... all about what you feel, not pre-meditated. (of course, when everything is "quiet" in my world i can't write a poem to save myself ;). mig.

I do like this alot, I had a hard time picking which one to feature on Anti-Prose though.   I try to alternate them so someone doesnt have 3 in a row at the top.

and as for the blog group, it's nice to be there. i have an aversion to "joining" things - cliques of all types usually make me nervy, but the encouragement has far outweighed the momentary panic ... thanks for having me, you guys. i hope this area keeps growing on ju.
