Windows Vista Is Gold

Microsoft Sends Finished Code To Manufactoring

Microsoft has announced that their "next-generation" operating system has gone gold. The often-delayed Windows Vista is finally finished and has been shipped off to manufacturing for consumer release on January 30th. Business consumers will get the first crack at the software in the coming weeks.

Microsoft has been pushing Windows Vista as a huge update for the gaming sector, focusing on a number of key features including DirectX 10 and Xbox Live compatibility. Most upcoming AAA titles will be backwards compatible with Windows XP, one notable exclusion being Microsoft's own Halo 2, as the industry works to shift exclusively to DirectX 10 (and therefore Windows Vista) over the next few years.

Jim Allchin, co-president of the Microsoft division that includes Windows put it best "This is a good day."
