biological weapons

Is it possible to deliver biological weapons to colonies, perhaps even infecting pregant individuals to kill off their unborn children (thus forcing the empire to come up with a cure, fix bio-agent effects and possibly send new colonies to replenish the numbers)?

There is an attack tactic when you invade the planet to use gasses... it makes it so you can take over the planet easier, but it also hurts the planet. There are a few diffrent selections of howto invade planets, each have a cost, bonus and sometimes it hurts the planet(IE mass drivers).

You can also mod these and add your own :)

neat. I was actually thinking about launching a cloaked probe into the planet's atmosphere equiped with primitive sensors to detect large volumes of life. This probe could be used as the delivery agent and unless the colony can detect cloaked objects, the biologic weapon would be deployed and you never had to lose a single ship or person in the process =)

I guess the delivery agent doesn't have to be cloaked, but if you could cloak it, that would obviously improve your success rate with it. It'd be a nice inconvience anyway since (if it was a virus to prevent birth), their population growth would cease. This would be great to prevent colonies from getting larger. It could also be used to kill the population and effect the environment of the planet too.

I have no idea. There are tons of biological weapons you can think up really and maybe the game has a bunch. If you could select from different ones, then perhaps each one could be good, evil or neutral. However, I think any good empire wouldn't resort to these tactics as it lacks honor - and usually good and honorable go hand-in-hand.

I checked the gamma test level definition file for invasion tactics and, while none of the definitions are currently using any of them, there are settings available for influence penalties.

I have added invasion tactics to me website.
If you want to take a look at what was available in the gamma release.
My site will be updated on the 26th with the actually shipped games data file as well as the bonus pack.

enjoy

I've got a question about invasions. On the screenshots I've seen that 1 billion soldiers or more can attack. I just want to know, to create such an army, does that decrease the population of the colony used to create the army? and do you then need to return the soldiers after use?

Yes. Troops in galciv are based on conscription. They come directly from your citizenry.
