Mod/Tech Tree question.

Just wondering about the modding'nes of Galciv in relation to thigsn like the tech trees. For example,. say I want only empire X to have ship class Y. Wil that be possible (more specific than good guy bad guy sorta thing).

From everything I have read, it sounds like techs are available to everyone with only alignment restrictions. This seems to have been a decision made to keep the game very balanced.

The rule is that you have access to everything the AI does and the AI has access to everything you do. The only things an AI might get is more bonus points at the start of the game, but that is only to provide more of a challenge for those ready to select the more difficult game settings. The reason for all of this (given to us by Stardock) is to 1). maintain a balanced game, 2). enable the AIs to be very intellegent. If you want an easier game use the intellegence sliders for the AIs and set them at a low intellegence. (note that this is HIGHLY recommended the first time you play this game.)

Hi Jeff, Hi Soulfire!

The a.i get the same tech tree and the same ships. Also if you mod the game and design a super destroying ship, then the a.i.'s get the same ships that you will have access to. And this does keep the game well balanced. The Drengins are wondering if i need to be tenderized before they fry me... :)

As far as i know the only way to view it is via the Stardock Central application. It is free and works pretty good. Both forum need sticky threads so the staff can post responces to such questions. Not so easy to find page. Anyhow here it is.

SDC (Stardock Central) is still in Beta and gets frequent revision. There is a pointer to SDC with the Galciv CD.

Ok. Just that a few people are asking for it. It does feel beta to me. But the forums via SC are almost as good as a chat client in of themselves. Looking good.

For mIRC 6.0 users, irc://irc.stardock.com/#galciv at an address bar or command line should get you there. (Users of other clients or versions of mIRC will have to enter it manually, but the info is there.)
