I rolled up to my super W yesterday evening, minding my own business. I parked and was walking to the entrance. Along the way I sensed there was something different in the air. First off, Super W is a pretty busy place. It doesn't matter what time of the day you go there, the place is always pack. I always wonder what kind of jobs these lucky people do in order for them to be here as often as they are and for as long as they are because the place is always busy! You can't find parking close enough, it's always a trek. Mind you I don't mind that so much as I need to get all the exercise I can in.

Well, yesterday evening I noticed that there were quite a few young men around. I also noticed the cars. A lot of them love the sporty cars, some even having 'bells and whistles' then I see quite a few people standing in a group near to the entrance. I thought to myself, what the heck, is there a fire or something? I dont' see smoke or fire truck so it can't be a fire!

Then I noticed, wait a minute, some were lying on blankets, some on beach chairs, some were gathered around what looked like someone showing some stuff, to others, then I heard a round of applause and I took a quick look to see if they were clapping me! LOL! yeah, like I'm a movie star or something. Nope, not me, I'm miss regular joe mom running in to pick up something for dinner. But to get back to my sight seeing, this looked like a party! They were having fun, talking and laughing, all that was needed was music! Yeah!

Anyway, it dawned on me, oh yeah, the PS3s are out! Oh...I did heard it mentioned on television this morning. My son also mentioned it to me. I told him, I don't think so because that's way out of my budget at $600 a pop! We definately have to wait til the price goes down, that is if there will be enough of it after this group gets through buying and I thought I heard that Sony didn't make enough of them?!

But if the PS3 is out on Friday, tomorrow, why the line now? I guess they wanted to be the first however many of them there are on line starting two days before! Wow! I guess I can't blame them, they are so dedicated to their game. Reminds me of my son who dreams of earning his own money one day so he can do whatever he wants with it, like buying $600 games! Thank heavens he plans on being a game developer, he's going to need the money!

I don't know what they're going to do though, it's been raining a lot today, so some people are getting wet!

They have been lined up here since Tuesday night - for 100 at one store!

I'll wait.  No, actually I dont care, so I am not even going to worry about it (we are having a monsoon right now, so I suspect that all are soaked to the bone).

I had really wanted to get my husband a PS3, but the way console releases have gone, neither of us have the dedication or time to spare to do what it takes to obtain one (heh, and I don't think they're selling them in Iraq!).

The price is definitely a deterrent, too. While our family would get $600 use out of a PS3 over the course of a few years, that's still a lot of cash tied up in a completely unnecessary luxury item.

Too funny about your son...mine wants to do the same thing (design video games)!

My son was pushing for an Xbox 360 Platinum edition.hahahahahaha Nope.

Then he was asking for the Nintendo one, with the sticks, yeah, nope.

Then he moved on to an ipod. It was "only" $250....no.

Now he's trying to negotiate getting a regular xBox 360 since Halo 3 will "only play on it." waaaaa, nope.

He has PS, PS1, Game Cube, and an X Box. Plus, gameboy, gameboy advance, and the last one that came out I can't remember the name. Then he has at least ten games for each system.

He also has a new gaming computer.

That's retarded.

He is very good about saving his own money and buying used systems, but we bought most of them as gifts. He's a good kid, gets good grades, and only games on the weekends.

He doesn't mind if he only gets one present to unwrap at Christmas, as long as its what he wants.

But I do. So he's not getting it. He is talking about selling all his systems and buying the 360. I'm not letting him do that though. He is gonna be one unhappy camper Christmas morning.

Heh, I just wait and pick up the "old" systems when they're cheaper...I might go ahead and snag a Gambecube sometime...they're only a $100 now. I'd hate to see the prices in a few years...you'll have to take out a loan to buy the damn things...

Although, I'm very impressed with the graphics they have now...I mean to come from Pong to Halo 3....wow...it's amazing.

I go to the game shops with my son, we buy the used stuff too. Sometimes to the local pawn shops, they have new used items people gave up. So I look at those places first.

But with the Wii coming out Sunday...and at a far better price, the competition just may not give them the record profits they're hoping for.

I'm going to wait a year or two. I still have my PS2 and a few good titles I haven't finished playing yet.

The limited number of sets is pushing prices way high and there's no point buying it now when there's no very many good games to play on it.

The prices will definetly drop, just like the psp did. PSP is now half the price it was when it was first released.

PSPs dropped in price because sales were largely flat for them after initial release.  It was an example of great tech that never got proper support from Sony or game devs.  Games are few and far between for the system and the UMD movie format they wanted to launch is officially dead.  PSPs are mostly tech enthusiast gadgets now since they can be modified so extensively.

The PS2 is *STILL* $130 new.  That's for a console that is over 6 years old now.  Sony drops prices only when it absolutely has to, and largely ignores the price actions of its competition.  The PS3 is going to stay expensive for a long time.

RE: The price points. I remember back to my childhood when we wanted an Atari 2600. The cost was prohibitively expensive for us at the time, and this was only months before the release of the 5200 which would make the 2600 obsolete.

I remember the price well to me, because at the time it seemed like a mountain of money to me. $200. The PS3 may actually be releasing at a LOWER price point indexed for inflation than many of these early gaming systems.

Still, when I think of how much computer I could build for the same $600, I'm not too keen on dumping that money into a machine that, while fancy, is built for basically ONE function.

I'm sure a lot of people think this way too. Only the truely serious gamer who has to have the latest won't. And of course those people out to make a buck!
