Colonize "X" class world +50%. +100% does what????

Obviously i get the idea of colonizing special classes of worlds, barren, toxic, etc... But what does the 50 or 100% have to do with it? What is different b/w basic X planet colonization and advanced X planet colonization. It doesn't appear to change the number of tiles available, nor the PQ rating, or upgradable tiles... sooooo?

1st tech: 50% production on planet
2nd tech: 100% production on planet

At least that's what the tooltip says.

I think it appears if you hover over one of the special enviroment icons.
I'm not at a computer so I can't check myself.

When you open the planet so you can see the tiles, the environmental icon is to the right of the planets name. The tooltip that coems up when you colonize the planet let's you know what % of production you currently have on planet.
