possible to switch parties when it is convenient?

how do i switch parties if i feeel the current party is not going to do well? ie, a war breaks out and i want the war party in for the military bonuses.

or should i just jack the tax up to 100% and hope the current party gets voted out...

if you lose control of the senate you lose the bonuses you had when you started, which can really hurt if you're the war party and you hitpoints get cut in half
then youhave to wait 2 years to try and get a majority then. and it might be very hard to go to war against an opponent (if you try to attack first)

what i mean is what if i start as, say, the pacifists and then i get attacked by all the other civs and i want the war party in control. is it possible for me to jump ship from the pacifists and say, "the paranoid neo-hawks were frickin' right!" so i can get a war party senate with those new bonuses?

No the choice is made at the start of the game.

How many republicans have you seen that suddenly changed and became democrats when the democrats had a house majority? :P

I bet you never saw that senator successfully switch BACK to the original party after the house majority switched again. hehe
