Electronic Arts has purchased longtime development partner Headgate Studios in an effort to strengthen their Nintendo Wii portfolio. The purchase will see the Madden and Tiger Woods developer re-branded as EA Salt Lake and focus exclusively on Nintendo's newly launched system.
"Having worked with EA for the past six years, we know their teams share work ethic, passion for creative excellence and commitment to quality," said Vance Cook, founder of Headgate and now newly appointed as executive producer at EA Salt Lake.
"By joining EA, we are making official what we all already feel – that we are part of the EA family," he added.
As is standard with EA acquisitions the financial terms of the purchase were not made public. Before the acquisition Headgate Studios was working on the 2007 version of the Tiger Woods franchise and is presumably still doing so, only exclusively designed for the Wii. EA has also announced a Wii-centric version of the mega-popular Sims franchise.
