AI Difficulty compared to Beta

From the gameplay examples, it is obvious that the difficulty of the AI in the relase version is much higher than in Beta 5C. So that I don't get obliterated in my first game, what would the Beta Difficulty levels correspond to in the Release Version. For example, I play with all of the AIs on Smart in Beta 5C. What would you recommend I start with in the release verison?

I always play on "normal" settings when I play a game for the first time, I would think that "normal" is a good place to start in GalCiv.

It won't really be my first time palying, though. I have been playing the Beta for a month or two, and have a good understanding of the game fundamentals. Does 'normal' in the release compare with 'Smart' in the beta?

Truthfully if you have played beta I would start on normal. A lot of things have changed so that you might need to adjust your strategies.
