Tonight I looked up at the sky
A gleam of something caught my eye
I asked for happiness and love
From the little star above
But this thing was so light
Stars have never been so bright
Here I unloaded all my hopes and dreams
To yet another empty thing
Fooled by something I thought true
Something more to make me blue
The raindrops fell down my face
Like the tears they replaced
Like my dreams as they fell
Off to find another wishing well.

A new poem, just written. You know, I find people never read my poetry. I wonder, does it suck? Is poetry just not something people are interested in on JoeUser? I don't even know if the people who DO read it enjoy it. I wish someone would comment, tell me I should stop writing, something!!!

I read it, and I enjoy it.

Oftentimes, when I'm reading someone's poetry, I simply don't have anything to say. After a while "I liked it" seems a little redundant, dig?

I understand.

I think my main problem with poetry is, I just finished studying it in Lit, and it's like, I constantly want to assess it and try to figure out the meaning behind it and dig deep inside of the poem to see where the person is coming from. Since I'm so into that, I wish everyone else was right now, too!! I wish people would interpret it, tell me what they think I mean, etc. True criticism, dig? ;)

I feel ya on that....it's hard for people to comment on poetry sometimes because they don't want their comments to be taken the wrong way or because they're not sure what they got out of it reflects what the author hoped. I mean, check my stuff sometime.....half the time I don't know what I meant to say.

I've read through a lot of the stuff I wrote in high school and realize how much I think I've improved...and maybe I have or haven't from a technical standpoint, but from a personal connection with your words it does grow.....and maybe one day I'll be the wordsmith I've always aspired to be scribbling away on coffee stained napkins in dimly lit cafes when I'm 60.

I read your poetry, but I don't comment often because ussually all I can say is wow, or think to myself how I feel the same things... I will try and give more feedback if you desire. :)

Anne- I think people are less into poetry than other stuff. I enjoy your poetry a lot, and always look forward to coming to your blog, really I do. Not only is your poetry good, but I love your writing style. You're very passionate, as Dan says, and it makes learning more about you more interesting.

You've talked about "The Jar Bell" quite a bit, or so it seems, that I'm now reading it... so far, so good.

Keep up the great writing. rock on!

anne, i read you work whenever i get time and always enjoy it.

i find that a lot of poetry doesn't get commented on ... sometimes it's hard to "get across" to someone the feeling that you get from their poetry. it's so simple to pop into a blog on any other topic and say "good point", but with poetry it gets more difficult. it's so personal.

there are are number of poets on here whose work i think is just beautiful. but i try to limit saying so to keep it "genuine". ugh ! does that make sense ?.

i have often chided myslelf for not commenting "enough" - i guess it's a hard line to draw. i tend to err on the side of caution.

(but i'll remember to leave a "note" now and then from now on)
