More AARs and the like please!

I'm starting to really get excited for this game, could some Beta testers post something - anything!

I'd love to hear some war stories, I'm always amazed how eloquent some people are at describing their games on boards like this one. It's always makes some great reading! Even stuff like favorite starbase configurations, research paths, favorite ships, etc...

Well, I can say that I have finsihed my first game without EVER beeing at war, I just traded, built a few starbases and so forth. Its neat that you can survive and WIN without even beeing at war!

Well, I played the Humans (of course), my civ started in the upper right corner of the galaxy and I was able to grab some good starsystems (one with three class 16 planets), so when I fist encountered one of the aliens I had 7 worlds colonized (small map) wich made me quite powerfull (not the most powerfull, but powerfull enough). I started trading with them very early so a large part of their economy came from me, this was of the reasons I think, also, the Altarians were the most powerfull civ, when they attacked the drengin and started wiping them out, the drengings surrendered.. To me! So, with our two empires merged I was now the most powerfull civ, holding 49% of the total votes in the United Planets Council.
The game progressed and the other civs had several wars with each other, but never with me, I was in the background slowly building up my starbases with culture-modules, and soon after I won a cultural-victory.
The primary reasons I won without beeing at war were these I think:
*I played a good civ, my borders were to the Altarians and the Arceans, both good civs.
*My trade was a big part of their economy.
*I gave them gifts from time to time to keep our relations at neutral (not to often though)

Great AAR! I know a lot of people want to be able to win the game without (at least declaring) war and this is a great example of how it could be done! :CONGRAT:

I'm in a position to win without a war. Location/luck of the draw is key. Had a great position in a corner with some room to expand. Been just a steady build up. I've used my tech/money lead to subsidize the Drengin and Acereans in their wars against the Altarians and Torians - the other race - can't remember, apparently got eliminated early on. I'm trying to keep the galaxy balanced among the other powers while I decide to go which type of victory to go for. I'm close to getting through the entire tech tree - I'd like to do that first.
