Dark Avatar Cheats

Are there any Dark Avatar cheats?
I.e. Ctrl M = 10,000bc?
Tanks in advanced,
Josh.

It looks as if you're pretty anxious to find DA cheats. Not quite sure why 6 different posts were needed. But it looks like Kryo cleaned up the excess.

Anyway, AFAIK the normal DL cheats work. See the Wiki article.

Cheats in a beta?

Wouldn't using the cheats make it harder to observe the stuff Stardock might hope we'll post about around here? The devs are still working on balance issues and it seems like invoking the cheats (at least without a formal test plan) would lower the value of a beta response post.

Yeah. But people will want cheats to work in DA as well. Who knows why someone wants to do this at this point. It doesn't hurt anyone though.

I can see removing the fog of war as a possible benefit to more fully see AI behavior.

Yes. Cari has asked that testers refrain from using cheats at this time.

NEED A CHEAT FOR SPEED !!

Like selected ship moves like it used to before the nerf bat on the movement occurred...

GCII is my first 4X game where I've never wanted to learn the cheats, but I still second Supreme Shogun's request. One of the things I really like about GCI and II is that they are very much Stardock's games, which means the core is "by gamers, for gamers."

But Stardock also appear very committed to modding, etc., which is the PC version of house rules for a card or board game. Some folks like to play very weird forms of poker, and some folks think stuffing lots of money under Free Parking on a Monopoly board just makes sense.

I did find that eliminating the fog of war was helpful for my first couple of games, but that's about it. Other than that the quasi-hot seat mode enabled by cheats is the only thing of interest, although I've never used it yet.

I also have to ask. Why would someone want to cheat while testing a beta? Maybe lifting the fog of war as Mumble suggested (still would not recommend) but that would be the extent of it.

I know it is not the way the rules read, but I happen to be one of "those" people.

Actually the OP posted 6 copies of this post before Kryo came along and deleted the extras. To me it seemed that the OP was either a noob that happened to get in on DA Beta because he thought it would be fun, or perhaps a game reviewer, in either case not much difference.

It certainly didn't seem to me that he was a serious Beta tester. So if he wants to have some fun with cheat codes, I see no harm in it.

"Free Parking" always gets $500 on it to start and again after someone lands on it. Plus you get $400 for landing on "Go". Isn't that how everyone plays?

I always wanted the Free Parking thing when I played Monopoly too, and I vaguely recall a couple of other fun house rules from my wee lad days (wasn't there one about double payday if you land on Go?).

It's only my experience as a working tester that made me want Stardock's take on whether us beta folks should be using "cheat" codes.

I guess I can't debate with you on that point.

In my house, Free Parking only got $200 placed on it. Whenever anyone had to pay for Community Chest cards, Chance cards, income taxes, or bought their way out of jail, the $$$$ always went to Free Parking. Always made for really great games.

(wasn't there one about double payday if you land on Go?).

I will have to use that one next time I play, never heard of it until now...

kyro said that they turned off the cheats

Anubis, you need to have the shortcut pointing directly at the game (GC2DarkAvatar.exe) rather than the launcher.

kyro said that they turned off the cheats

I don't recall ever saying such a thing. Cheats work just fine, same as they did in standard GC2. Cari just asked that people refrain from cheating when testing so as to not cause issues with the cheats that may not otherwise occur.

If using the same cheat code again does not toggle it back on, then no.
