is it, what is it, and how is it done

I'm simply a bit curious, will it be possible to salvage, say recieve a research bonus, or allow a ship to retrofit enemy weapons (i know that last idea is unlikely but the though just makes me really happy).

anyway, thoughts on salvage would be appreciated.

I think that salvaging resources from wreckage was added but I don't think that you can grab tech and stuff like that.

ok thats fine by me, it would seem the technologies and ideologies of the three competing races would make research bonus's unlikely anyway.

We dont know if techs between the three diffrent races will be simillar or compatible with each other. But, im pretty sure they will allow you to gather resources from destroyed ships and stations, no sense in letting all that metal go to waste.

yes, you can gain back materials from debris

no that stuff cannot be used to retrofit or get bonuses (extensively discussed on the old forums)

ahh... sounds like i missed some good conversation on old forums, but i admit it would be a bit much in a game with scale like this to get retrofitted abilities.

I wonder if too many battles happen in one system an artificial asteroid ring of broken ship parts will start forming.

Woot that be so cool to have a battle in one of those, with some of your fighters getting pulled in by their grav well and being destroyed and huge capitls accidently crashing and causing huge explotions.
