Perpetual Entertainment has laid off 35 employees just as their AAA MMOG, Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising, nears completion. Via the Perpetual forums user Binky, the Community Relations Manager, posted on behalf of Chris McKibbin, President & Co-founder of Perpetual that Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising is within a month of being "content complete." The near completion of the MMO's content is given as the reason to the layoffs: "As we achieve this major development milestone, a number of content production roles come to an end."
The development house, who is also in charge of creating the Star Trek MMO, Star Trek Online, still maintains that the firm has "over 80 talented people strong as we enter the final phase prior to launch." Perpetual also slipped in a delay to the title, citing quality assurance and wanting to ship "the highest quality game possible" as the reasons behind a push from Spring 2007 to Summer 2007.
